Drew Brees: ''Our time is now''

Saints quarterback Drew Brees joined WWL's "Cajun Cannon" Bobby Hebert and Deke Bellavia for the first "QB to QB" feature of the year.

Drew said the excitement level is peaking at just the right time after a strong preseason of preparation.

"It's exciting, especially since you go through an off-season where you got a lot of great work done, worked extremely hard as a team, both in the weight room and throughout the OTA's," Brees said.  "And now, it's time to reap those benefits.  Obviously, each week in your preparation, there's a routine, and there's just a lot of work that needs to get done, and you know how much you've invested at this point...and you hope it pays dividends once the season starts."

Bobby asked #9 about what it's like to have Robert Meachem back in the huddle.

"It's great have to have him back, and I spent some time with him yesterday and today, and he's all smiles," Drew said.  "Obviously, he's excited to be back as well, he's a great fit for this offense and what we do."

Brees said Meachem's return will only enhance an already-solid receiver corps.

"To add him to the mix now, after we got to see Toon and Stills in the preseason, and got to see what they can do...and they're still developing, young players, but obviously they continue to impress.  You take veterans like Marques Colston and Lance Moore, you've got a pretty formidable group there.”

Deke asked Drew if he thinks both the Saints and Falcons are teams of "now," given that a lot is made of windows of opportunity for teams considered contenders.

"I'd say they (the Falcons) have some really young, talented guys, that you feel like they're going to be good for a long time...and I feel like we're going to be in that position as well, along with a mix of seasoned veterans," Brees said.  "I almost feel like our time is now.  When you look at a game like this, when you've got two teams that have such high expectations, and over the last four years, five years, for both teams, a lot of wins, a lot of playoff appearances, and a lot of tough games between the two of us...that has all the makings for what will be another great game.  You know, these games are really meaningful, too, when you think about how the road, we are all aspiring to be playoff teams...and how that all shakes out.  I have a lot of respect for their coach, Mike Smith, and his philosophy, and the way he's built that team.

Drew had much more to say during our conversation.  Click HERE to listen to the full podcast of our interview with Saints QB Drew Brees.
