Dr. John Day at French Quarter Festival
The French Quarter Festival kicks into high gear starting today.
Thursday was a great opening day, with terrific acts and wonderful weather...and they were just getting warmed up.
The festival heats up, big time, today...as Dr. John makes his first appearance at the fest since 1987.
"Twenty-seven years! It's unbelievable to me that he hasn't played," says Marci Schramm, Executive Director of French Quarter Festivals, Inc.
As Dr. John would put it, 'It must of been the wrong time.'
Apparently, the time and the place are now right for his return.
"He and his band are so excited," says Schramm. "You know, we're the only major festival he's performing at this year."
His Friday afternoon performance with the Nite Trippers will begin at 4 o'clock on the Abita Beer Stage.
And, he's just one of 1,400 local musicians who've been drawn to the 2014 Quarter Fest.
"We've talked to him many times, and he's really so excited. He lives here part time now, says Schramm. "He doesn't live here full-time. He's playing all over the place."
And, today, the place is New Orleans' Vieux Carre.
