Deke's week #3 prep preview

We are already in the third week of the regular season.  Some of the match-ups that we see from now until November will be the only gauge we have on who truly are the best teams in the state.

For example, four Class 5A playoff teams square off this week.  But there is not possibility that these teams can play each other this post-season due to the new select/non-select playoffs we will have this post season.

Our game of the week takes place at Hunter Stadium as the St. Paul’s Wolves entertain the McDonough #35 Roneagles.  Both teams are currently 1-1 on the season.  The Wolves are still adapting to their new spread style offense and they are coming off a close win over the Jesuit Blue Jays last week.

The Roneagles got blown out in week one in a 47-12 loss to rival St. Augustine, while last week McDonough #35 did the blowing out in their 36-0 shutout win over Lutcher.  This looks like a really good match-up on paper.  Now we shall see if that plays out on the field.

Rummel @ Acadiana – The Rams of Acadiana and the Raiders of Rummel have two of the best programs in the state.  Unfortunately for the prep fans, we can’t see these two meet again.  Rummel is coming off a very close 7-5 win over Hahnville last week while the Rams suffered a 35-28 setback to 2nd ranked 4A Neville Tigers.  Once the regular season comes to an end both teams are expected to make deep playoff runs this post season.

St. Augustine @ Covington – Another match-up that features 5A playoff teams that will go their separate ways this post season.  The Purple Knights are coming off a tough loss to Edna Karr while the Lions got a big win over Franklinton last week.

John Curtis @ East St. John – Simply put...In his long, great and successful career, there have not been too many times when Coach J.T. Curtis is coming off a loss.  The Patriots took one on the chin last week in a loss to St. Thomas Aquinas of Florida.  The Patriots lost 27-13.  The Wildcats of ESJ are off to an 0-2 start with losses to Rummel and Scottlandville the first two weeks of the season.

Landry/Walker @ Hahnville – If if’s and but’s were candy and nuts we would all have a Merry Christmas.  What am I saying?  Hahnville blew a great chance to be 2-0 with wins over Salmen and a almost win over Rummel last week.  Landry/Walker comes into the game with a 2-0 mark with wins over South Lafourche and Miller McCoy.
