Deke - LSU VS UAB: It?s almost game day!

The 9th ranked LSU Tigers will play their second game of the season tomorrow against the 0-1 UAB Blazers.  LSU is coming off an impressive 37-27 win over then 20th ranked TCU.  LSU moved up three spots in this week’s AP top 25.

Coach Les Miles said earlier this week that his club is focused on the rest of the season beginning with UAB.  “I think our guys have come off of that, recognizing that they need to play better…that they really have accomplished a lot, and are looking to make some strides through the season.”

UAB shocked the Tigers in 2000 with a 13-10 upset win over LSU.  Coach Miles said that his team is focused on UAB and his players know that they are facing a good squad, and also said his Tigers are not concerned with the rankings.

Miles has also made his team very aware of the fact that the Blazers upset LSU in the first ever meeting between the two schools back in 2000.

UAB Coach Garrick McGee is in his second season as head coach of the Blazers as he has compiled a 3-10 record.  The Blazers are coming off a 34-31 overtime loss to the Troy Trojans a week ago.  Coach McGee complimented Coach Miles, saying that LSU has a solid program that is one of the most consistent programs in the nation.

“They’re going to be the same year in and year out, very aggressive on defense, and they’re going to look to control the ball on offense.  That’s the philosophy Coach Miles has, we know that’s not going to go away. “

McGee this week talked about preparing for the LSU D.

“You have to neutralize the defensive front first, that’s the first step,” McGee said.  “And then, once you neutralize them, you go after the back seven.  That’s our philosophy on offense.”

Coach McGee says that he thinks his program is heading in the right direction as he starts the second year as head coach at UAB.

LSU is currently a 35 point favorite over UAB.  Next week the Tigers remain at home as they play host to Kent State while the Blazers go back to Birmingham to face Northwestern State.
