Deke: Is it over yet?

The Saints were hoping to get to 3-4 before a two game home stand with games against the Eagles and Falcons.  Now, the task was a tall one on the road, to take on a high-powered tough team and beat the Denver Broncos at home…but did anyone see this coming?

New Orleans was soundly beaten in every phase of the game, leading us all to ask the question that has been in our minds since the Saints began the season a surprising 0-3…and that question is:  Is it over yet?  Well folks, if it ain’t over, it’s only a matter of time before it is.

The Saints are now 2-5.  New Orleans’ record is only one game better than Carolina in the NFC, with the Panthers’ only win coming against the Saints.  The Saints have the second-worst record in National Football Conference.  That 2-5 record is better than just three teams in the NFL, with those teams being Carolina, Jacksonville, and Kansas City, another team that has one win with that one win coming against guess who?

Against Denver, the rest of the world saw what happens to the Saints if their offense is not working.  And that result is a blowout loss.  The Saints’ only shot at staying in a game comes when their offense puts up big numbers.

252 yards of total offense, including just a whopping 51 rushing yards, were all that the Saints could manage against Denver.  New Orleans was a dismal 1-of-12 on third down conversions in the game after being second-best in NFL converting on 48% of third downs.

A year after the Saints offense broke every record known to man, their defense is obviously envious of that achievement with the strong showing they are giving on a consist basis.  The Saints defense is setting all sorts of records of their own that could stand for a very long time, if not forever.

The Saints are the first team in NFL history to allow an opposing team to gain 400 yards or more in their first seven games, as Denver gained 530 yards of total offense against the Saints.  Prior to the 2012 season the Saints had allowed opposing teams to gain 500 yards or more ten times in 45 years.  The Saints have allowed 500 yards or more of total offense three times in the last five games.

Denver made the Saints look bad on offense, they made the Saints look bad on defense, and they dominated the game.  There are nine games remaining on the Saints schedule, and by the looks of the complexity of the NFC, it may take the Saints to go on a nine game win streak to have any shot to make the playoffs.

This team has reeled off win streaks of 13 and 9 wins in two of the last three seasons.  But that was then, and this is now.  What am I saying?  What I am saying is that this team is going nowhere.  The Saints may win a game here or a game there, but with what we have seen from the Saints defense…the lack of a rushing attack…and no Sean Payton…the final nine games will only produce a few wins, possibly a handful.  It is delaying the inevitable, and that is it’s over.  And If I am wrong, I will gladly stand up, get crunk, and admit I’m wrong.  But I won’t be!

It's been over for weeks you goof!
The Saint's defense has given up more yardage in 7 games than any team in the history of the NFL!
10/29/2012 2:29AM
Saw this coming
I would love for just once one of the Saints defensive players to admit they need work. This personnel has not change much since Payton took over and we always have mix results it's not the coordinators it's the talent. Greer is our best corner but he isn't a lock down, Smith way past his prime never understood why we signed him in the offseason, Ellis should have been cut, Harper well not much to say there, and finally P Rob overhyped at best is a dime corner back in the league. This is a disgrace and Loomis has to make a vow to address Defense and a lot of fans shouldn't let them off the hook cause we have way to many running backs and we don't use them whats the purpose when that money can go elsewhere

How many games will it take for this nit wit D coordinator of ours to realize that this D line cannot create pressure on the QB?? Adapt to the personnel!!! Blitz more!!! What do we have to lose at this point??? At season's end....say BYE Will Smith, BYE Sed Ellis, BYE Bunkley(or whatever your name is), BYE Will Herring, BYE Patrick (toast) Robinson, BYE Scott Shanle, BmeaseeYE C White. This defense grossly undersized, esp at the cornerback spots, and lack the talent to excel. Embarassing and pitiful. Period!

Falcons score 2 points in playoff game at Home in blowout!
Enough said!!
10/29/2012 8:56AM
Is it me or our DB's some of the smallest guys in the league??
10/29/2012 10:04AM
How;s draft look
Bright spot now might be a high draft choice. Any defensive studs lineman that can rush the passer out there? This is a passing league and we do not have anyone that can put pressure on the passer.
10/29/2012 11:50AM
High draft pick
Bank on the high draft pick and then trade it to get multiple picks. We need a total defensive overhaul.
10/29/2012 12:47PM
the honey badger
draft tyrone mathieu. i'm serious. dude is seriously good, and he'll probably be cheap considering...

Sean Payton needs to replace the entire defensive coaching staff.
I would not over react by our loss to the Broncos. Manning had a lot of built up angst from his Superbowl loss to the Saints and Brees in the Superbowl. All lot of indicators were in Mannings' favor for this game. Our WR's dropped a lot of Drew's passes. Jimmy Graham is unable to run at full speed, yet. Our offense will click, again. On defense, we need to find out who can play and who needs to go. It is obvious that Spags concepts are not working. The loss of all those draft picks have hurt our defense. The Saints could have used an impact defensive pick in the draft. Free agency is only a stop gap for the defense. The Saints need to draft and develop defensive players. Before any of that, the Saints need to revamp the entire defensive staff from top to bottom. Hopefully, when Sean Payton, returns, an outside perspective will allow him to make coaching staff changes without all the personal attachments.

The no saints, staff and players, can do all that they want to because their glory days are over. The idiot fans can continue to pray for payton but let the truth be told this guy is NOT a man of integrity. This year will be like next and next like whatsto come. Destruction cometh ... Bear down idolaters

Monday night football
Word is the Eagles will bench Vick for the rookie QB. They couldnt of picked a better defense to do that. Only the worst of all time.
10/29/2012 2:43PM
Eagles rookie QB must be licking his chops - Can't wait for this one!
If they do decide to play the rook vs. Vick, he will most likely have a career day in the Superdome! What is the current first-game rookie record for passing yards? Look for it to be shattered! Entire Saints "D" needs to be revamped ASAP.With the exception of Curtis Lofton, the coordinator and 1st team personnel group are pure garbage. They were last year as well under Greg Williams.
10/29/2012 2:47PM
Bench Ingram and Get a Defense
So many things have gone wrong this year - The 2 biggest in my opinion (other than coaching) have to do with the following:1. Ineptness of Mark Ingram - I mean really 2 yards/carry - Take some lessons from Willis McGeehee!! Why not put Chris Ivory in - he would have to be better!!2. The defense is the laughing stock of the NFL - other than Malcolm Jenkins great effort to tackle Vincent Jackson last week at the 1 and the goal line stand by the defense to keep TB out of the end zone, I can't think of ANY other good plays by our defense all year.Get it together boys - you're embarrassing to those who love you....

Deke: Is it over yet ?
Once again, you jump off the band wagon. Some hard times and they're done, stick a fork in 'em ... why not keep a positive attitude instead of dogging them and talking about how "the season's over". If that's the case, just quit so no one gets hurt and live to play another day ... Deke can always find someone else to dog !!!
10/29/2012 3:43PM
Saints Suck
Falcons 7-0-0.............Saints 2-5-0....... Bobby get a real job., Deke you keep yours!!!!!!!!!
10/29/2012 3:58PM
Mr Benson
Sell the saints while you can, maybe the city can get back to other things but football 23 hours and 59 minutes a day!!!!!!!
10/29/2012 4:11PM
Rod Guidry in Sacramento
Goodell has a big smile on his face! Even he could not imagine how much his punishments have and will hurt the Saints. I did not either. But, I don't have a smile on my face. That is reserved for Goodell and FAILCONS fans.

Rod Guidry in Sacramento
Look on the bright side. At least we will have Sean Payton back after this season is over, and have a great Draft Fest. Reality is wait till next year. Look at the Colts, and how much a good draft pick can help. Scrap the season and get a high pick and trade for more picks.
10/29/2012 5:56PM
$100 000 000 QB backs
Well one QB looks worth his money but the other one should spend some of the money far a defence.
10/29/2012 6:24PM
Who Dat from Albuquerque, NM
They will come back!!
10/29/2012 8:01PM
Saints to bounce back!
Falcons may be 7 and 0 but they still ain't going to the show!
10/29/2012 9:08PM
Wow I have to admit... I have been a Saints Fan now for 40 years and I will be untill the day I die. Last nights game though was terrible, I mean we all sit and hope that the defense will wake up before each game. When is Benson going to understand that our defense is not a SPAGS type defense. SPAGS needs to go. These guys need to start stepping it up and hit someone. As far as the offense, hey line can we protect drew a bit more, maybe create a hole one day, recievers wanna get open a little quicker. Well all I can do is pray that this team reaches down and starts to play some hard knocks football and lets get that wild card slot baby. WHO DAT For life !!!!
10/30/2012 1:53AM
Denver fans should be asking if it is over for them!
Did Denver's Offensive line have to hold the worst defense in the NFL on almost every play in order to win? Holding was only called about three times, but Denver was holding on at least twenty plays. The worst one was when Smith was held by his collar to save a sack of Manning. Denver fans should ask themselves if their team can hold it's way into the playoffs. Don't be so proud of this cheesy win. HOLD ON BRONCOS!
10/30/2012 2:01AM
Draft? What Draft?
Hello Saints fans who think we can get great draft picks! Guess what? THERE ARE NO DRAFT PICKS! We traded some and lost the others to Goodell! There is no reason to talk draft. Our draft is GONE!
10/30/2012 8:19AM
Defense needs to hit someone
Is it me or is our defense always going for the ankles? It seems like we are afraid of hitting because of the alleged bounty. Just play like there is one!! Stop this madness.
10/31/2012 2:22AM
This is what happens when second had players get overplayed for doing nothing.
10/31/2012 10:24AM
Bench Ingram, No vision with the rock... More aggressive on defense, existing D talent cannot handle Spags scheme. Put Zach on a diet, horrible so far on the O-line. Anyone else see how our D line gets blown off the ball 5 yards every play... Hit the gym.. who is the strength and conditioning coach, Michael Moore.
10/31/2012 11:49AM
Draft what draft? Really?
Hey dumbs***, the Saints are still entitled to their 2012 draft choice which means they could possibly trade it for more picks. Do research before opening your piehole!
10/31/2012 11:51AM
Correction to my last post
*2013 draft pick

No head coach, no chance..
The NFL Management got what they wanted, a destroyed season for the Saints. Unfair, but true. The Saints have no Head Coach leader, a must for success in the NFL., period. Do any other teams elect to not have a head coach by design? I don't think so. That is it, end of story. The rest is just for good discussion.
