Monday, January 30, 20102 - What a privilege to broadcast live from Super Bowl 46. We’re among a who’s who in the media...all the big timers are here! Yes, the Super Bowl is just that...super! The big game has come a long way since the Green Bay Packers beat the Kansas City Chiefs in the first ever Super Bowl back in 1967.
Here at the J.W. Marriot Hotel in downtown Indianapolis, if you ain’t here to talk about the biggest event in TV history, you’re probably talking about what lies ahead for the great Peyton Manning. One or the other is the hop topic on every microphone.
Luckily for our sports krewe from the “Big Easy” the weather is mild; there’s no snow on the ground...at least not right now. As I walk around the Grand Ballroom I see every sports icon - Jim Rome, Chris Collinsworth, Michael Irvin... Man, the egos walking around here are bigger than Lucas Oil Stadium and the real superstars haven’t even arrived yet.
We’re set up in the New Orleans Super Bowl Host Committee booth (for Super Bowl 47) in front of Radio Row...the first stop as can as you enter the ballroom. And all of those big timers I mentioned are smiling as they pass, because they know that the biggest event in sports and perhaps the world is coming back to New Orleans.
If I were an odds maker I’d take odds that nine out of every ten people, who cover this annual event, would choose New Orleans as the Super Bowl destination every time. Don’t get me wrong, Indianapolis is a fine, clean, pretty city, but New Orleans has the best layout and vibe.
For our weeklong broadcasts of WWL SportsTalk...live from Super Bowl 46...we partnered with the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation & the Super Bowl Host Committee, who spearheaded New Orleans “Perfect 10”...our record 10th time hosting the Super Bowl. Yes, the GNSF and WWL radio are here to let everyone know, when you come to the Crescent City next year...4 & 5 star hotels, the Morial Convention Center, Mercedes Benz Superdome and world class restaurants...will be in walking distance...and you’ll more than enough to do in the nearby French Quarter!
Media members, who pass by our booth, are being treated to fresh king cake...Mardi Gras beads...Chefs will come by to cook...and they’re seeing video billboards of the best sights, sounds and tastes of the Big Easy. And, of course, the Super Bowl XLVII logo is everywhere!
This is just the start of an incredible week of action here in Indianapolis. So, I’ve got to get back to work...with our WWL krewe - Bobby Hebert, Kristian Garic and Jay Vise. We’re gonna bring you all the latest news and interviews from Super Bowl 46...and a who’s who in sports and entertainment. See ya soon! Listen to the Cajun Cannon and me on SportsTalk from 4 to 8pm and check out videos and features online at wwl.com. Wish you were here! WHO DAT!
It is so awesome that you get to represent the Who Dat Nation at the Super Bowl! I'm a proud "Who Dat" Military member stationed at Wright Patterson AFB, OH, just a few hours from Indianapolis, and wanted to send you a shout out thanking you for representing us. Like Bobby Hebert, my wife and I graduated from Northwestern State University and my whole family are die hard Saints fan. After Northwestern, I joined the military and serving in the military and being deployed so much, unfortunately, it has been impossible to get back home or attend a Saints game but because of your radio station, we have at least been able to listen to the games, thank you!!! If you are ever at Wright-Pat (Dayton, OH), we would love to show you the town and celebrate like true Saints fans!!! Hopefully one day we can meet and I can thank you in person. God Speed and Who Dat!!!. Lt Col John "Mambo" Mammano, email@example.com
Same hotel as Giants!
Giants vs Patriots would be an amazing Super Bowl... I'm a big Giants fan and need to be sure that I have a place set up to watch them beat the Patriots. How lucky I am! I am staying at the Downtown Marriott, the same hotel as the Giants team... I hope to see Giants guys. I booked my hotel with http://www.14sb.com and http://2020Hotels.com, phone 917-224-1231. I was lucky last year; they upgraded me to the HILTON HOTEL 2 minutes from the stadium! They offer Luxury Lodging and affordable accommodations for ALL EVENTS. You can also find Hotel rooms during OLYMPICS, SUPER BOWL, FIFA WORLD CUP, FINAL FOUR, F1, Formula One, Grand Prix races in Austin Texas...
