Oh, the painful memory that will never be erased from the minds of LSU football fans will be something that is talked about from here until the end of time. With that said, a win over the #1 ranked, and defending National Champion, Alabama Crimson Tide would be a nice start in restoring faith to those disappointed Tigers fans.
The most disappointing loss in BCS history went down last January in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, as Alabama beat LSU 21-0…and the game was not as close as the score. Alabama not only beat LSU in every phase of the game, they embarrassed the Tigers in front of their home crowd.
For the past 10 months, Tiger fans have been waiting for a shot at some type of redemption against the Crimson Tide. Now, the stakes are clearly not as high, but they could lead to stakes that could be as high.
Alabama comes into the game against LSU as the #1 team in the country with a perfect 8-0 record, including a 5-0 mark in Southeastern Conference play. Alabama has not allowed any of their last 22 opponents to get 300 yards of total offense.
The Crimson Tide has soundly dominated each of their first eight opponents this season with an average of 19 points per game margin of victory. The Alabama defense is #1 in the nation in all the major categories, and they play a physical brand of football that also features many mistake-free games.
The Tide brings a seasoned quarterback who is 21-1 as a starter under center. QB AJ McCarron has thrown 18 touchdown passes...and more Importantly, no interceptions this season. The Tide are well coached, and perhaps their greatest strength is that they don’t beat themselves.
On the flip-side, the LSU Tigers are 7-1 coming off a week in which they did not play a game. LSU has shown flashes of greatness this season, but the Tigers have yet to put it all together this year and play a complete game. A complete game will be needed this weekend in Death Valley if LSU is going to hand Alabama their first loss of the season.
So the day that LSU fans have been looking forward to for nearly a year is here. And Saturday night in Tiger stadium we will know if the game is worth the wait.
