Deke: Saints fans' message to the rest of the NFL - It's on now!

Since we all threw up when Vernon Davis hauled in that 14-yard dagger that knocked us out with the 49ers' 36-32 win over our beloved Saints, it seems like that sick feeling in our stomachs has moved lower on our bodies!
I mean, am I the only one that feels like the 2011 season has never ended? How could a season that started kind of shaky, take us on perhaps the best regular season ride in Saints history, and then all of the sudden become a nightmare?
The Saints' record-breaking season will be remembered for all the wrong things, and that’s not me talking...That’s just the way it is. From the Friday afternoon when we all thought that the breaking news about the Saints was going to be about a long-term deal for the best #9 ever in the history of the ''Big Easy,'' things have been rocky, to say the least, for members of the Who Dat Nation.
Yes the news we got was like, "say what?" A pay-for performance-program in New Orleans could not have meant the football team could it? Well it turns out it was about our Saints. And then I keeping replaying in my head that TD pass that Alex Smith threw to Vernon Davis and I say, "Man here we go again. Is last season over yet?"
Not too long ago, the world was watching this city from afar as a mean old woman named Katrina knocked us down and many were praying for us...Then, we became the talk of the globe as a football team that had been known more for being lovable, laughable losers turned into a championship contender in a matter of months. And now it seems like it’s us against the world!
Our title is tarnished, they should be banned from the game for a long time, they (Saints) have no shot a winning the Super Bowl this season, shame on them! Yes, my fellow Saints followers out there, those are just a few things that are negatively being said about our team, and we have not even had one practice yet!
Coach Payton’s suspension begins next week and maybe now we can begin to focus on a season that had so much hope for us in becoming the first team to play in a Super Bowl that their city hosted.
Is the goal of winning the Super Bowl now a dream instead of a reality? Can the New Orleans Saints organization move on and put what seems like a never-ending nightmare behind them and get ready for the 2012 season? When will we sign Drew Brees to a long term deal?
These questions will begin to be answered starting at the front of next week. As for us, the people of New Orleans, well we know how to party and we know how to fight, and now our team has their backs to the wall, as the other thirty-one in the league sure aren’t going to feel sorry for us.
I say that this season is going to be the most anticipated in Saints history, and perhaps the most anticipated is sports history of any one franchise entering a season. And I also say good luck! Good luck to the rest of the league.
The Saints will practice harder, the Saints will play better and the Dome will be louder than it ever has been before. So let’s all turn this negative into a positive, Black and Gold Fans. Let’s take the high road instead of the low road on this one.
So here’s to you Mr. Commissioner...What you have done is rally a city, its team and its fans and that will mean trouble for the rest of the league. Down here we love our football and looking forward to football season has taken on a new meaning to the Saints and their fans.
It’s a long time between now and February 3rd 2013. Buckle up and enjoy the ride!
