Deadly robbery in LaPlace locks down schools

Cops in St. John the Baptist Parish are looking for a suspect or suspects in a robbery that ended with one person dead on the scene and another taken to the hospital.

St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 100 block of Sleepy Redwood Street in LaPlace after reports of a robbery at LaPlace Feed and Supply.

Sheriff Mike Tregre say the victims are the owners of the store.  The husband died, the wife was wounded.

Schools in the area were placed on lockdown as a precaution.

It happened around 2:30pm.

John L. Ory Communications Arts Magnet School, St. Joan of Arc Catholic and Emily C. Watkins Elementary were locked down.

After police arrived, parents were allowed to pick up kids and busses ran their routes.

Tregre is asking residents in the area to report if they find a cash register anywhere.  He says the robber took the store's register and may have ditched it nearby.
