Terrebonne authorities say a woman is dead and her boyfriend wounded after they tried to buy drugs from a teenager.
The murdered woman is identified as 25-year-old Elizabeth Davis (above).
"Davis and her boyfriend were attempting to purchase illegal narcotics in the Smithridge area when the subject they were dealing with attempted to rob them," Captain Dawn Foret said in a news release. "The suspect then shot multiple times at the victims as they attempted to flee the scene in their vehicle."
Foret says the bullets killed Davis and injured the boyfriend. He reportedly drove away after the shooting and went to Marty J's convenience store on Highway 56 to get help.
"Upon the arrival of deputies and medical personnel the body of a female identified as Elizabeth Davis, 25, was found inside of her vehicle in the parking lot. It appeared she suffered from a single gunshot wound to the upper torso. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Davis' boyfriend was determined to be the driver of the vehicle. He was treated at a local hospital and released for a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his hand... The boyfriend of murder victim Elizabeth Davis and driver of the vehicle during the illegal narcotics transaction has been identified as Jimmy John Scott, 28, of Chauvin."
This happened around 7:30 Wednesday night.
Police have identified a suspect.
"Detectives continued the investigation and have obtained arrest warrants for Desmond Verdin (right), 17 of Village East for one count of first degree murder, one count of attempted first degree murder and one count of attempted armed robbery with a firearm," according to Foret. "He was last seen wearing dark colored clothing. He is 5'8-5'10", thin build. If anyone has any information as to his whereabouts, please contact Crimestoppers for a potential reward. Please do not approach him. He is considered armed and dangerous."
