Cops: Man kills wife, self when she comes to see kids
Dave Cohen Reporting
A Denham Springs man allegedly shot and killed his estranged wife before turning the gun on himself in a murder suicide when she came to the home on Grand Turk Drive to see their two young children.
"My deputies discovered the bodies of a male and a female, both deceased from apparent gunshot wounds," Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard said in a news release.
Detectives identified the dead man as 38-year old Marlon J. Reed, Sr. and the woman as 35-year old Aleria Cyrus Reed. Cops say they were married, but had separated.
Ard says, "We've learned Marlon J. Reed, Sr. was staying at the Denham Springs residence with the couple's children. Aleria Cyrus Reed was residing with relatives in Baton Rouge. Through our investigation, we've learned that she was at the Denham Springs residence to visit the children. That's when the shooting occurred. We believe - through the facts gathered - that Marlon J. Reed, Sr. shot his wife and then turned the handgun on himself."
Ard says the 3-year-old and a 6-year-old boys were apparently outside when the shooting started.
There is no record of any previous domestic violence calls at the residence. Mrs. Reed, however, had filed a petition for a Protective Order in Livingston Parish alleging domestic abuse involving her husband. The Protective Order was active.
