Cops: Lafourche man runs out of gas fleeing from cops, gets 4th DWI

Officials in Lafourche Parish say a man with an extensive criminal history is under arrest after trying to run from cops on an empty tank.

According to LPSO Deputy Brennan Matherne, officers responding to a disturbance in a Larose neighborhood found Anthony Leboeuf Jr. (above) parked on the street.  After police asked him to exit the vehicle, Matherne says Leboeuf "ignored the deputies’ requests and actually began driving away from the scene, nearly striking a deputy as he passed by them."

Officials describe what happened next:  "The deputies then returned to their unit and activated emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to initiate a traffic stop, but Leboeuf continued along West 21st Street, eventually reaching LA Highway 1. Leboeuf turned onto West 25th Street and began traveling through various streets throughout the neighborhood near Larose Cut-Off Middle School before turning back into the southbound lane of LA 1. Leboeuf continued southbound until his truck ran out of fuel, and his truck came to a stop after he turned down West 33rd Street."

Deputies say once they caught up with Leboeuf they "detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath" and found several open alcohol bottles in the truck.  After Leboeuf blew a .082% on a breathalyzer test, officials say Leboeuf "also advised deputies they would lose their jobs due to him knowing a large number of people in the community."

Matherne says Leboeuf was booked on several charges including 4th-offense DWI, aggravated flight from an officer, disturbing the peace by appearing in an intoxicated condition, open alcohol container in a motor vehicle, no seat belt, no insurance, and public intimidation.

Leboeuf was released from the Lafourche jail after posting a $37,200 bond.  According to Matherne, Leboeuf has an extensive criminal history dating back to 1998 with 20 prior arrests for charges including various drug charges, DWI, aggravated battery, domestic abuse battery, assault, burglary, theft, and various other crimes.
