Cold now and getting even colder

Arctic air has moved into Louisiana bringing some of the coldest temperatures that the state has felt in years.

"Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday we are expecting a hard freeze across most Louisiana," State Climatologist Barry Keim said. "Tuesday will be the coldest of the three days."

The National Weather Service says, "The arctic air mass had arrived... and continues to take a firm hold."

Government forecasters warn after temperatures below freezing this morning and wind chills in the teens, it will be even colder as we head into Tuesday morning.

"Temperatures will fall rather quickly after sunset to freeze and eventually hard freeze levels overnight."

Tuesday morning lows are forecast in the 20's with wind chills in the teens north and south of Lake Pontchartrain.  The Northshore could see some spots where the actual temperature falls into the teens.

Highs will stay in the 30's through Tuesday, warming into the 50's Wednesday.
