Coast Guard: Helicopter crashed in Gulf

The Coast Guard says that they've gotten reports that a helicopter crashed into the Gulf of Mexico this afternoon with just the pilot aboard.

"We got a call that a helicopter had crashed, 35 miles southwest of Grand Isle, Louisiana," says Petty Officer Steve Lehman.

He says they've dispatched a 45-foot response vessel and a Coast Guard helicopter to look for the missing helicopter.

Lehman says early reports suggest that the downed helicopter could be used to fly workers to oil rigs in the Gulf, but it's still too early to know exactly what happened.

The rescue teams are currently en route.
