Chief: ''We will not live in fear'' - suspect identified

New Orleans Police Chief Ronal Serpas says information has been pouring into the NOPD about the recent murder of brother of a murder witness.
"(Serpas) released the name and a photo of the man accused of gunning down 61-year-old Curtis Matthews, in what is believed to have been a retaliation killing stemming from the conviction of Telly Hankton," Officer Garry Flot said in a news release. "The triggerman has been identified as 35-year-old Walter Porter. Porter is accused of killing Matthews last Saturday night around 10:45 in the 3400-block of South Claiborne. Matthews was the brother of a witness who testified in the recent murder trial of Hankton."
He says that Walter Porter is an African-American male, 6-foot-3 and weighs about 170 pounds. (pictured above)
"I want to thank the many people of New Orleans who stood up for themselves- and for their community- by contacting authorities and helping us identify Walter Porter as the suspect," Serpas said. "It's clear that the people of New Orleans are not going to stand for these senseless killings."
Serpas said the large number of calls they got and information people have shared shows the community cares.
"Enough is enough. We will not be intimidated. We will not live in fear," the chief insisted.
NOPD says Porter's record is extensive.
"He has been arrested twice for Murder. He has also been arrested for burglary, illegal use of weapons, simple battery, simple criminal damage to property, and putting the life of a police officer in danger," Flot said. "Porter's convictions include assault, aggravated battery, distribution of marijuana and felon with a firearm."
Cops are looking for Porter.
"If you think you've seen Walter Porter or if you believe you know where he is, please call CrimeStoppers at (504) 822-1111. You do not have to give your name, and if your tip helps lead to an arrest and indictment of Walter Porter, you could be eligible for a reward- which now stands at $16,000."
ESPN's Colin Cowherd says New Orleans is the wrong place for big time sporting events because it is the most unsafe city in America. Is he an idiot or not?
