Carnival really takes off with the super krewes rolling this weekend

It's the weekend of the super krewes in New Orleans as the city kicks off five days of Carnival festivities.

It all starts when Endymion rolls tomorrow with the first American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson and what may go down as the biggest float in Carnival history featuring "Pontchartrain Beach, Then and Now."

Endymion's Ed Muniz says the float will actually have rides on it and describes it as "a rolling amusement park." He says it will feature nine rides, "Such as the Zephyr, the Flying Horses, the Ferris Wheel, the Haunted House."

And if you've never smelled Pontchartrain Beach before, will you will when that huge float rolls by.

Bacchus is celebrating their 45th anniversary Sunday with the theme "Bacchus Sails the Seven Seas." Bacchus's Clark Brennan says the rock band Foreigner headlines the Rendezvous Sunday night and "G.W. Bailey is our king this year and he is excited and ready to reign as Bacchus 45."

And Orpheus pulls out all the stops Monday for their 20th anniversary and Renee Maxwell with Orpheus says co-founder Harry Connick Jr. has written a special song about their signature train float. "It's called the Smokey Mary Boogie Woogie Choo-Choo Train and he'll be premiering that at the Orpheuscapade.

"Harry's bringing back Mariska Hargitay, who enjoyed her ride so much last year she's back again," says Maxwell.

Actor Gary Sinise will ride and his Lt. Dan Band will perform at the ball. And Nick Cannon from America's Got Talent will ride. No word yet if his wife, Mariah Carey will be attending any of the events.
