CCC toll vote recount tomorrow

Saturday, elections officials will re-count the votes in the Crescent City Connection bridge toll extension. Opponents of extending the tolls will be watching closely.

Harvey representative Pat Connick is among the interested observers in the case that's challenging the narrow margin of victory -- fewer than 20 votes -- that extended the tolls on the bridge another 20 years.

Connick says if more voters fully understood the issue, the vote probably would have gone differently in the first place:

"It didn't make any sense.  We're funding a bankrupt government entity, again, for 20 years," he said.

Harvey resident Mike Teachworth challenged the November 6 election results, alleging irregularities, electioneering and other problems at the polls. Elections officials will recount only the mail in and provisional ballots cast in New Orleans, the only parish out of the three taking part in the vote where a majority of voters approved extending the tolls.
