The Louisiana SPCA is asking for help identifying the suspect or suspects involved in throwing pregnant rabbits out of a car in Metairie.
"On the afternoon of Tuesday, May 13 a good Samaritan witnessed two young rabbits thrown from a car window in Lafreniere Park," Spokeswoman Alicia Haefele said in a news release. "Both rabbits suffer from broken legs and are in fact pregnant."
She says they hope that cash will help get tips from the public.
"The LA/SPCA is offering a $1,000 reward to anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator(s) of this act of animal cruelty," she said.
The suspects face felony charges of aggravated cruelty to animals. That carries fines of $5,000 to $25,000 or imprisonment for one to 10 years or both.
"You can make a difference in the fight against animal cruelty. Individuals with information about this crime are asked to call the LA/SPCA at 504.368.5191 ext. 100 or contact Jefferson Parish Animal Control at 504.349.5111."
Dr. Gregory Rich at the West Esplanade Veterinary Clinic is caring for the animals and provided the photos.
