Brees: Looking for a ''big victory'' as he breaks record

In an exclusive one-on-one interview WWL's Bobby Hebert, Saints quarterback Drew Brees said that while the significance of likely breaking the long-held Johnny Unitas record weighs heavy, he's more focused on getting a notch in the win column against his former team.
Brees said that San Diego will be a challenge in the turnover department.
"Their defense has been extremely stout, they've done a great taking the ball away. You flip on last week's game (against the Chiefs,) and they get five turnovers in the first half," Brees said. "They're equally talented in both the run game and stopping the run game, getting pressure on the quarterback, and pass defense."
Drew had made the request to the NFL to allow suspended Head Coach Sean Payton, GM Mickey Loomis, and Assistant Head Coach Joe Vitt to attend the potentially monumental game. He said that it was important to him that the three men so instrumental in his development be given a chance to be in the Superdome.
"We're hoping it's going to be a really special night, and not only get a win on Sunday Night Football in front of our home crowd," Brees said. "So many people that are a part of that, you just like everyone who is a part of that to be in attendance. Certainly they are a huge part of that."
As for the possibility of breaking the 52-year record, Brees said the record is all the more awe-inspiring given the man who set the bar more than a half-century ago.
"You know, over the last seven years, we've been able to do a lot of incredible things," Brees told Hebert. "I'd say the closer we've gotten to this one, the more significant you feel like this record really is. Not only because of the man who held the record, Johnny Unitas...one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play this game, a guy who revolutionized the position...but I think it's what it stands for, consistency and durability."
"You can't argue the man who established the record in the first place, and the fact that it's been held in place for 52 years says a lot about it. We've got a special group of guys and a great team, and everyone is a part of it," Brees said.
"I hope for everyone's sake we're able to accomplish that as part of getting a big victory on Sunday night."
