New Orleans is getting a new entrant in the local burger wars: Wahlburgers, the chain co-owned by actors Mark and Donnie Wahlberg and celebrity chef Paul Wahlberg. But can the Boston-born chain make it in the Big Easy?
New Orleans may seem saturated with "high-end" burger joints, with the recent closing of Phil's Grill and O'Henry's indicating maybe we've reached "peak burger." But real estate analyst Wade Ragas says like many things, it really comes down to the three rules of real estate: location, location, location.
"It really depends on where they put the stores and the extent to which they can identify under-served markets," said Ragas. "They may be looking at the budding market in downtown New Orleans and around downtown New Orleans where there's so many condominium and apartment units being built."
Ragas says between the CBD and Warehouse District, there may be room for a national chain. Wahlburgers says it's currently scouting locations, with the intention of opening two restaurants.
The chain attempts a 3-in-1 concept: counter service in one area of the restaurant, sit-down table service in another, and take-out. Wahlburgers locations also feature a full bar.
