Once again lawmakers discussed banning the use of hand held cell phones while driving. A bill to do just that was presented in the House Transportation Committee today.
The bill did not pass out of committee.
Breaux Bridge Representative Mike Huval said representatives for the insurance industry are in support of this proposal.
"The insurance rates in our state are very high as everybody knows when they go buy insurance for their car. This may be just another factor that maybe we could lower our insurance cost in our state," Huval said.
Huval hoped if this bill would have passed people would understand how hands free devices give a driver better awareness of what is happening on the road.
