The Audubon Zoo closed its gates to visitors this morning after an animal got loose.
Zoo Spokeswoman Chimene Grant says a young monkey escaped from its exhibit at about 10:15.
"Our zoo staff, which includes keepers, our vetinary staff, security, and first responders implemented our action plan to ensure that guests and staff were safe," Grant said. "They got into enclosed buildings while the animal staff was able to get him back into his exhibit."
She says it only took about 20 minutes to get the animal back into its enclosure, but the zoo was closed for about an hour to make sure everything was secure.
Grant says they are making an assessment to see how the monkey got out of its exhibit.
