Atlanta radio host posts long apology to Steve Gleason

One of the Atlanta morning show hosts fired over an offensive "comedy" sketch has written a long piece to apologize for the parody skit that made fun of former Saints safety Steve Gleason and  his condition.

Chris Dimino, one of the three employees fired from the "Mayhem in the Morning" show, wrote the following post on his Facebook page.  The full text of his post is below.  How do you feel about his apology?  Sound off below in the comments section (but please keep it clean, folks, this is a family-friendly station.

Dimino's post:

So where to begin. The obvious and rightful place is with an apology. And the reality of knowing that falls short...no matter what I say...is heartbreaking.

The sheer stupidity of trying to put this as a failed attempt at humor is not lost on me.

The words "Should have known better" mean nothing to me. And shouldn't to you right now

I would like to though offer my apology. Knowing that it is everyone's right not to accept it. Or even consider accepting it for now.

My apologies go out first to Steve Gleason and his family. The weight of what he and they are going through did not need to be made heavier or worse by the pure and straight insensitivity of my actions.

I also want to offer up my apologies to all who are not only dealing with ALS..but to those who are dealing with ANYTHING that has made themself or family and friends subject to the physical and emotional heartache of any debilitating disease or condition.

As a father of two girls, I put myself in a position that I have begged...pleaded..DEMANDED..they not put themselves in. That of the bully. The mean kid. The one who thinks what they say or do comes with no consequence. It does. It always does.

I have no illusion as to what 19 years on the radio...30 years of being a grown man..and most importantly almost 10 years of being a father..and what you build up in your name and reputation over those periods of time..should and does mean.

Now I know how quickly a stupid and worse than that non thinking moment can change all of it.

I hope I get a chance to prove this is not who I want to be. It was and is who "I am" today though. That much is not lost on me.

I have spent so long not trying to put other people in a bad place because of me. Today I failed miserably.

I'm very open to any and all dialogue as it pertains to the people I have hurt and disappointed. I've had that dialogue with myself..my wife and will with my kids.

Thanks for at least this much of your time

Not sure if he's sincere
He SOUNDS sincere...but I wonder if he's just trying to get his job back. How stupid do you have to be to do something like this on the radio??
06/18/2013 11:25AM
Don't buy it
I don't believe this guy for a second. He's just trying to save his name so he can get another job. I hope NO one gives any of these guys a job in any media forum ever again

Forgive others as you would wish to be forgiven
Give him a second chance

Oh Well...
Another "one" Bites the dust!
06/18/2013 12:12PM
education
these radio hosts need to spend some time in the neurology clinic to appreciate the devatating physical and emotional burden of this debilitating and life limiting disease
06/18/2013 12:21PM
I'M SORRY TOO!
There are so few times that justice is swift anymore and though I feel the radio station failed just as miserably as these "Shock Jocks" at least(after weighing their options)they did the right thing. It's just shameful that they even had to think about it and didn't monitor them in the first place!
06/18/2013 12:24PM
smh
Come on. You've got to admit it was a little funny though. Wrong sorta, comical O yeah I'd say. Just like Southpark does.
06/18/2013 1:31PM
Give back
He does at least sound sincere. Yes, it is possible that someone so callous to commit such a heartless act on a fine, top quality, yet now defenseless person as Steve, could also lack the remorse and conscience that would keep him from openly pretending to regret just for the chance for getting his job back, but if, If, IF, he is sincerely regretful the only way he might be able to truly forgive himself and relieve some of that shame is to devote some of his own time and own abilities to helping disabled people. At some point that "sentence" might evolve into a pastime, then maybe even into something rewarding.

Forgiveness !
Forgiveness requires forgiveness ! Whether or not he's sincere GOD will be the judge !
06/18/2013 2:53PM
Mayhem in the Morning???
Mayhem...chaos...isn't that what Shock Jocks do for a living, see how much worse they can be than the other guy? And when they go too far and get fired, isn't the incident that got them fired what is at the top of their resume' for their next job?
06/18/2013 2:57PM
Smh 2
The smh comment: You are a moron. And to quote South Park proves it. I don't know Mr Gleason but I have seen him around town. It's been sad to see him waste away. Nothing is funny about a young man in the prime off his life being struck down by any illness ...
06/18/2013 3:40PM
Man up
If he is sincere with his apology then he and his partners in ignorance should use their notoriety to form a foundation that educates and raises money for research for the many debilitating and deadly diseases that we face. Then and only then will they be taken seriously and truly forgiven.
06/18/2013 3:57PM
Regret for their own consequences?
Just gotta wonder how remorseful these guys would be after doing that if this hadn't blown up in their face and cost them their paychecks. That determines what kind of people they really are.
06/18/2013 4:56PM
how many of you ...
HAVE LAUGHED AT A HELEN KELLER JOKE OR FAMILY GUY MAKING FUN OF MICHEAL J FOX. TASTELESS AND TERRIBLE HUMOR YES, BUT WE ALL FU$& UP...CUT THE GUY A BREAK I SAY. GLEASON ACCEPTS THE APOLOGY AND THAT'S GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME

Atlanta
Just another example of Atlanta being the bastion of bad taste and poor sportsmanship that we all know them to be. It's sort of ironic just last the falcons them self refused to allow the saints to put the falcons emblem on the statue out side the super dome. Hmm coincidence I think not.

Somebody's Father
Like Chris said he has been a Father for 10 years... Steve Gleason will NEVER get that opportunity... he will be gone before his Son goes to Kindergarten. Apology accepted and forgiveness given... no reason to continue to beat these guys up. FYI: They are no closer to finding a cure, prevention or why it attacks than they were since the day Lou Gehrig was diagnosed with it 70 years ago!!

If he means what he says then he should help raise money for Team Gleason - or better yet, donate his time and meet the people he hurt. I'm glad he apologized, however, unemployment was the right thing.

To err is human but to forgive is divine
I didn't write that quote, but I strongly believe in it. I mean its not like these 3 amigos murdered anyone. Everybody deserves a 2 nd. Chance
