Airport shows off $300 million in improvements

For most visitors coming to town for the Super Bowl or Mardi Gras, the first thing they'll see is the airport.  Local officials today showed off $300 million in improvements.

The airport is key to making a good first impression, but New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu today said the major renovations are there just as much to benefit locals.

"Not only for the tourists coming in but for all the New Orleans folks who travel, either for leisure or for business, having a great airport is really important for having a first class city," Landrieu said.

The renovations include new restaurants at the airport, but from established local eateries, such as Dooky Chase.  Changes to the exterior were mad to allow more natural light into the ticket and baggage claim areas.  A new rental car facility consolidates all the rental car providers in one area, with room for 1,800 vehicles.
