Airport satisfaction low in New Orleans

New customer satisfaction ratings show New Orleans' airport ranks near the very bottom of the list.

J.D. Power and Associates says New Orleans Armstrong International Airport is below average in nearly all categories and about average in only one area.

"Two years ago we ranked in the top 4 and now we are in the bottom 4," spokeswoman Michelle Wilcut told WWL First News.

She says it's because of several factors including the fact that airports in other cities have made big upgrades in the past few years.

"All of our big construction is actually just starting to kickoff now," she explained. "We are definitely working to make it a better building and a better terminal for all of the traveling public and for the city of New Orleans."

"The theme is really about the basics," said Stuart Greif, vice president and general manager of the global hospitality and travel practice at J.D. Power and Associates. "What the basics are is getting a passenger in and out of the airport as efficiently and easily as possible."

Wilcut says improvements are coming the terminals, gates, bathrooms, baggage claim and more. "There's about $350 million of things in the works."
