And this is one mammoth convention.
"From a city standpoint, this is one of our largest and most prominent conventions that we do. They will fill every hotel room in the city, and they will pump millions of dollars into our economy explains Kelly Schulz, Vice President of Communications and Public Relations with the New Orleans Convention and Visitor's Bureau. And she says this convention is utilizing using all three million square feet of the convention center, that's 48 acres, or about 53 football fields with end zones.
"This convention, since it is so prominent, for example one of the keynote speakers is former President Bill Clinton. So they're bringing in some pretty big name speakers."
This group says they're dedicated to continue to advance Health IT Adoption and Mobile App Development, which will store your medical records in a central location, with IT and healthcare being two of the hottest growth sectors in the U.S. currently.
HIMSS will bring more than 35,000 attendees and 1,200 vendors to New Orleans for their annual conference.
Other speakers include President and CEO of Ochsner Health Systems, Warner L. Thomas; Scripps Research Institute Chair of Innovative Medicine, Eric J. Topol; James Carville, political commentator; and Fox News Contributor, Karl Rove.
This year organizers say HIMSS will "Debut the new exhibit Meaningful Use Experience, a special interactive area on the exhibit floor for providers to view demonstrations of certified electronic health record (EHR) solutions."
Five years ago HIMSS partnered with the Common Ground Health Clinic in Algiers as part of the HIMSS Katrina Phoenix Project and helped Common Ground transition to electronic medical records the CVB says, and "Today the Common Ground Health Clinic is thriving - as a completely paperless facility; it is amongst the most technologically advanced health facilities in the country."
HIMSS last convened in New Orleans in 2007. This year, the CVB says the conference is estimated to generate $40 million in economic impact.
