4 children rescued from fire in Covington

Fire tore through a home in Covington this morning.  State Fire Marshall Butch Browning says a mother and four children were inside.

"A neighbor was able to get two of the children out of the home," Browning said.  "When the fire department arrived, there were two children trapped in the flames.  The entered the building and removed those two children.  Those two children were burned and were transported to the hospital."

The fire broke out in the 200 block of West Edwards Street.  We are waiting for further details on the injured children and their condition.

Browning says it could have been much worse.

"Truly, the system worked," he insisted.  "I mean the fire fighters did heroic efforts of getting these children out."

Investigators are working to determine what caused the fire.
