On February 3, 2013, the City of New Orleans will host Super Bowl XLVII. This is the tenth Super Bowl for New Orleans, tying our city with Miami for the most Super Bowls hosted by a metropolitan area. This year’s festivities also happen to coincide with the 2013 Mardi Gras Season. Below you will find information relative to traffic plans for the Super Bowl, as well as information regarding permitting, licensing, and the Clean Zone for the Super Bowl period
Saturday, January 26 - Friday, February 1, 2013 7PM
Moving closer to Super Bowl weekend, traffic restrictions near the Mercedes-Benz Superdome will expand. Commuters and visitors will be most affected by the closure of the river-bound lanes of Poydras Street from LaSalle to South Claiborne. Poydras exit 234B from I-10 east also will be closed during this time.
The best options for residents who work in the area near the Mercedes-Benz Superdome will be to take the Loyola exit from the Pontchartrain Expressway and use Loyola Avenue to get to other downtown streets, including the lake-bound lanes of Poydras, which will remain open during this time. Garages at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome will remain accessible from a portion of West Stadium Drive. Those planning to attend the NFL Experience, the 5-day interactive theme park that starts January 30 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center will not experience road closings in the area, but may find parking difficult to find. Consider using public transportation such as an RTA bus or streetcar or a licensed taxi cab.
Suggested Routes
From the East
If you're traveling from the east heading toward downtown, the Superdome Exit will be closed. We recommend you continue on I-10E/US90 Pontchartrain Expressway and take the Loyola exit.
From the West
If you're traveling from the west heading toward downtown, the Superdome Exit will be closed. We recommend you continue on I-10E/US90 Pontchartrain Expressway and take the Loyola exit.
U.S.90 S. Claiborne toward Downtown
If you're traveling on U.S.90 S. Claiborne toward downtown, the Poydras Street exit will be closed. We recommend you continue on to N. Claiborne and turn right on Canal Street exit.
Wednesday, January 30 - Monday, February 4, 2013
Due to heavy pedestrian traffic, a portion of exterior streets will be closed to most traffic in the French Quarter from 7pm to 7am. Only residents and business owners and customers will be allowed to enter during those times. In addition, a portion of interior streets will be closed to all traffic. Only emergency vehicles will be allowed to enter during those times.
Friday, February 1, 2013 7PM-Monday, February 4, 2013 7AM
Traffic restrictions intensify Super Bowl weekend. Streets surrounding the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and in the immediate area will close as officials set up a security perimeter.
Sunday, February 3, 2012 Game Day
On game day, the area immediately surrounding the Mercedes-Benz Superdome will be a no-drive zone. Because of the numerous street closures and limited parking, the best option for fans headed to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome is to take public transportation or walk to the dome. People who need to drive will be able to take the Loyola exit from the Pontchartrain Expressway or the Vieux Carre or Esplanade exits from I-10 East. All lanes of Poydras Street will be closed from St. Charles Avenue to S. Galvez Street and portions of Loyola Avenue, Lasalle Street, Girod Street, Freret Street, South Robertson Street, Magnolia Street and Clara Street near the dome and arena will be closed. Streets on the downtown side of Tulane Avenue and the river side of Rampart Street will be the best option for game day drivers.
For-hire vehicles
If you're a licensed for-hire vehicle, the drop-off zone for passengers is Perdido Street.
