2 teens arrested in videotaped Marigny beating

The NOPD says it has arrested two teen suspects in the brutal videotaped beating of a man in the Faubourg Marigny earlier this month.

A police spokesman says investigators are still searching for the third suspect seen beating and kicking a man as he lay on the ground.

Yesterday, the NOPD had identifed 16-year-old Brian Ellis (above) as one of the teens who delivered the attack.

A full description from the NOPD of what happened that night follows the two videos below.  The first video shows the beating.  A second, newer video shows closer images of the suspects.

A press release from the NOPD describes what happened:

On Sunday, March 10, 2013, at or about 4:45A.M., a witness stated that he and his girlfriend noticed three or four unknown black males standing outside of the Friendly Bar, located on the corner of Chartres and Marigny Streets. The witness stated that one of the subjects approached him and tried to strike up a conversation. The witness made it clear that he didn’t want to talk. While the witness was trying to halt the conversation he noticed the victim walking by. The witness then watched all of the subjects begin to follow the victim.

Moments later, the two witnesses observed several subjects beating the victim at the corner of Chartres and Mandeville Streets with a bottle. They called 911. Police and EMS arrived shortly thereafter. The victim was transported to the hospital where he was treated for numerous lacerations and fractures to his face. The victim is still in intensive care and will require cosmetic surgery. Police learned the victim was still in possession of his cash and cellular phone and the no other property was taken.

Detectives located surveillance footage of the entire incident.  The surveillance footage showed what appeared to be three young black males striking the victim to the head with bottles.  The subjects continue to beat the victim while he lay immobilized on the ground.  The video showed one of the perpetrators departing and then returning and kicking the victim in the head as he lay on the ground.  The subjects are then seen walking away casually on Mandeville towards the river and then unknown.
