Slidell police say one person was killed on the scene and seven others wounded by guns fired into a crowd during a fight at closing time in Slidell's bar district. A second shooting victim died later Thursday morning at the hospital. The other six are considered stable.
"We believe that there was some type of ongoing feud inside one of the bars which ultimately spilled out on the streets," said Detective Daniel Seuzeneau.
He says the injured were taken from Olde Town Slidell to hospitals in Slidell and the New Orleans metro area.
The detective said that many of the businesses in the Olde Town area have video surveillance, which could be very helpful to their investigation.
"We have detectives out there right now, we obviously have a ton of different witnesses to interview, we have a lot of video to review and pull off some of the DVRs," said Det. Seuzeneau. "It's a lot of work ahead of us but we're ready for it."
Slidell Police say they know who is responsible for the shooting and are working to arrest them.
"Slidell Police have identified potential suspect(s) in this case, but are currently not releasing a name due to the sensitive nature of the investigation. Due to the amount of people involved in this incident, and the magnitude of the crime, Slidell Police are currently working with multiple other law enforcement agencies in order to gather intelligence on the people responsible for this horrific tragedy," according to a news release.
