'Special energy' at Jazz Fest's 2nd weekend

Let's get ready to do it all again: Jazz Fest returns from its three-day break today. The closing weekend's lineup is every bit as impressive as the first weekend.

"Maroon 5, Fleetwood Mac, and the Black Keys, in addition to everything else that's there," festival producer Quint Davis said as he rattled off a list of names: "Willie Nelson's 80th birthday, Phoenix, Hall and Oates."

Sure, there's a threat of rain, but unless there is a lot of lightning or it just gets really bad, the Fest last weekend proved a little wetness won't slow them down.
"Fortunately or unfortunately, after 40 years of doing festivals in the spring in New Orleans, we're like the world's greatest 'festival-in-the-rain-putter-onners,'" said Davis.

Today's performances features a two-and-a-half hour set from Athens, Georgia-based jam band Widespread Panic. Davis said people just seem to summon the power to keep it going for the final four days.

"The second weekend always has a special energy to it, because you're approaching the end of the festival until another year," he explained. "People love the festival so much and they love being here so much, that I don't know if you'd call it an urgency, but maybe it's cling to your last days of Jazz Fest until 2014."
