'Duck Dynasty' family member running for Congress

The nephew of Duck Dynasty's Uncle Si Robertson, Zach Dasher, announced his candidacy for Louisiana's Fifth Congressional District.

The Calhoun businessman says our rights do not come from elite politicians in Washington D.C. who think they know our lives better than we do.

"I'm not a political guy like 99.9 percent of those of us out there, but I thought enough is enough," said Dasher. "So I want to go to D.C. to help restore America to what she once was which is a nation that builds freedom and prosperity on the anchor of God."

Dasher, a Republican, says his background is in the pharmaceutical industry, he's been involved in the real estate business and with fundraising for non-profit organizations.

He says he's sick and tired of the government thinking they are God and the determiner of our lives instead of the defenders.

"Just look at Obamacare. This is the government forcing people to purchase their healthcare insurance because they think that we're too stupid to make our own choices," said Dasher.

The election for Congress takes place on November 4. Dasher doesn't think the EPA should be telling third and fourth generation farmers in the fifth district how to operate.

The newcomer is the cousin of Duck Commander CEO Willie Robertson. Dasher says the Duck Dynasty crew all got together last week to support his decision to run.

"And the entire family showed up...Willie, Si, Phil, Jase, Al, Jep -- everybody was there," said Dasher. "We really share a similar ideology when I talk about the Almighty God and what his role is in the foundation of freedom. Everyone was extremely supportive."

The incumbent, Vance McAllister, won his seat with the Robertson family endorsement. After security video footage of McAllister passionately kissing a married female staff member became public, the incumbent he announced he wouldn't seek reelection. However, McAllisters has been noncommittal to that statement recently, instead saying he will make his decision by the August qualifying period.
