Two Tangipahoa parish adults are in jail and their five children are in the custody of family members after sheriff's deputies went to a home last night to serve an arrest warrant.
Yance May had outstanding warrants on a theft charge, but when deputies arrived at the home at 16342 Hwy. 1064 in Natalbany, what they found was shocking.
"Detectives described it as 'beyond deplorable' living conditions," said Tangipahoa Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Dawn Panepinto. "It was unsafe, unhealthy, just in total disarray."
In addition to garbage, unwashed dishes and other squalor, officials said they found drugs and paraphernalia, including used syringes.
Deputies arrested May, 27 and Taylor Kleinpeter, 22 on charges ranging from possession of controlled dangerous substances, possession of drug paraphernalia, and five counts of child endangerment. May also faces theft and theft of a firearm charges. Kleinpeter also faces parole and probation violation charges.
