''Racist images'' found in Plaquemines Parish

Cops in Plaquemines Parish and the FBI are investigating what police call "racist images."

"The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office was notified about a rope with a noose-like knot hanging from a willow tree on the Mississippi River batture in the 14300 block of Highway 23 in Belle Chasse," Commander Eric Becnel said in news release. "Additionally, what appeared to be racist graffiti was found on the scene."

Authorities say someone painted the letter K on trees in the area.

"Two Ks were spray painted on the tree, and, nearby, the words 'White Power' were found written on the cement levee embankment," according to Becnel.

He says investigators contacted the FBI New Orleans Civil Rights Squad.

Sheriff Lonnie Greco said, "This type of offensive behavior is disheartening, unacceptable, and has no place in society. The individual(s) found to be responsible will be held accountable."

He asks anyone with information to contact the PPSO Criminal Investigations Bureau at 504-392-1652 or the FBI New Orleans Field Office at 504-816-3000.
